What We Believe

A summary of what we believe as a church family at Pima Canyon Church

About the Bible
The Bible (both Old Testament and New Testament) is the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings. It is the supreme source of truth for our beliefs and living. (1Cor 2:13; 2Tim 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).

About God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe, who has
eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Deut 6:4; 2Cor 13:14)

About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the
Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead demonstrating His power over sin and death. Afterwards He ascended to heaven and will return again as reigning King. (Daniel 7:14; Matt 25:31-46; Luke 1:35; John 1, 2, 14; Rom 3:24-25; Rom 8:34; 1Cor 15:51-59; 1Thess 4:13-18; Heb. 7:25; Heb. 9:24; 1 John 2:1-2; Rev 19:11- 16)

About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father and God the Son. He has a personality, and He works in regeneration, sanctification and preservation. His ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and implement Christ's work of redeeming the lost and empowering the believer for godly living and service. (Rom 8:9; Rom 12:3-8; 1Cor 12:1—14:40; Eph 1:13-14; Eph 4:11–13,30; Eph 5:18-20)

About Human Beings
Human beings are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. Therefore, we believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of immeasurable worth in all its components, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death (Psalm 139:13-16).

Although every person has incredible potential for good, all people are marred with sin. This state of total depravity separates people from God and creates the need for salvation (Gen 1:26-27; Rom 3:22-23; Eph 2:1-12).

About Salvation
Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sins by good works of any kind. Only through faith alone in Jesus Christ do we receive eternal life, which never ends because we are kept forever secure by the power of God (John 1:12; John 3:16-18; John 6:38-47; John 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1,38-39; 1 Cor. 1:4-8; Eph 2:8-9; Eph 4:30).

About the Church
The Church is a spiritual body of which Christ is the head and is composed of only saved people. This Church expresses itself in the local assemblies whose members have associated for worship, for instruction, for fellowship, and for service.  (Eph 2:20-22; 1Cor 1:2; 1Thes 1:1; Heb 10:23-25).

About Baptism
We believe baptism is to be observed only by those who have believed in Jesus Christ for salvation and is a public declaration of our decision to follow Christ.

About Eternity and the Last Things
We were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God because we have trusted in Christ. The Lord's return will be personal, imminent, and will bring rewards to the faithful (Mark 9:43-48; 1Cor 15:51-52; 2Cor 5:10; 1Thess 4:13–5:11; Rev 20:3, 15; 22:3-5).
