Romans is foundational to what we believe as followers of Christ. Each passage is an expression of the gospel and its importance for our lives.

I. The Call (vv.1-3)

  1. To be subject to governing  
  2. To resist our governing authorities is to resist God
  3. That said:
    • Our first   is always to God, however…
    • If our stand for Christ causes us problems in life we need to be willing to submit to the consequences by those in authority

 

II. God’s Servants (vv. 4-5)

  1. Those in authority are  
  2. We are to:
    • Submit ourselves to authority
    •  
  3. So that:
    • We can live lives that are peaceful, because…
    • Peace is a more conductive atmosphere to spread the  
  4. Authorities are God’s servants for good
  5. God in his   gives to us laws, rules and people to enforce those so that we are protected and safe

 

III. The Means (vv. 6-7)

  1. There is a correlation between the tithe and taxes
  2. God instituted the tithe to   
  3. Taxes are used to support government officials
