The Adoration of Christ (Luke 2:8-20; Matthew 2:1-12)

1. The Shepherds (Luke 2:8-20)
   • God calls the   and reveals His grace to them.
   • The angels:
     1. The glory of the Lord shone all around them.
     2. The  —the savior has just been born.
     3. They are declaring peace on earth. 
   • The shepherds acted  .
   • The shepherds’ response to the Christ:
     1. They   that the Messiah had arrived.
     2. They praised and   God.
   • Mary sits and  , treasuring all that she has experienced in her heart.
   • Application
     1. God makes clean the unclean.
     2. Be   to what God is doing around you and ponder those things in your heart.

1. The Magi (Matthew 2:1-12)
   • The magi came from Persia.
   • The magi would have been exposed to:
     1. The teachings of the prophet,  
     2. The pagan prophet, Balaam
   • King Herod:
     1. He was a descendant of Esau, not Jacob.
     2. He was a   of Rome.
     3. He was terribly cruel and  .
   • Jesus was only a few months old when the Magi came to worship Jesus.
   • The gifts:
     1. Gold –  
     2. Frankincense -   and righteousness
     3. Myrrh - affliction and  
   • Application
     1. One day   will worship Jesus.
     2.   all of life to the authority of Christ.
     3. Jesus desires to have all of you, and in return, He has offered all of Himself to you.
