Introduction (Matthew 5:1-12)

1. The repeated word “blessed” – good fortune and happiness.

The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-13)

1. Blessed are the poor in spirit...to be at the end of yourself and completely   on God.
2. Blessed are those who mourn...to lament over   and loss.
3. Blessed are the meek...to be   and gentle.
4. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness...the   of God.
5. Blessed are the merciful...generosity,  , and compassion.
6. Blessed are the pure in heart...Jesus has washed away our sin, and we are to live lives that are   to God.
7. Blessed are the peacemakers...We do all we can from our end to be  .
8. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake...we are blessed when we are   for the sake of righteousness.

Conclusion: Why is it so hard to live this way?

1. We are living in an   world.
2. We may live in the world, which is upside down, but we belong to the kingdom of God, which is  .
3. We are to be transformed by the   of our minds through Bible study, prayer, singing and fellowship.
