The Life of Christ: Mercy and not Sacrifice

Arise and Follow (Matthew 9:9; Mark 2:13-14; Luke 5:27-28)

1. As followers of Jesus, we are called to subject   to Him:
2. Jesus called   people to follow Him.
3. Jesus can and will use us to do great things for the kingdom of God.
4. The sacrifice for following Christ is worth the spiritual   and relationship we gain with Jesus.

Mercy, Not Sacrifice (Matthew 9:10-13; Mark 2:15-17; Luke 5:29-32)

1. If we are to be   to Him, we will do as He does (1 Samuel 15:22).
2. God would rather have our obedience than sacrifice, and He would rather have us show  , too.
3. Jesus calls us to show mercy to the people around us that the religious would call sinners and  .
4. They are just broken people.
   • Broken people that need the   He offers and…
   • Broken people who have already been healed by His mercy.

Cloth and Skins (Matthew 9:14-17; Mark 2:18-22; Luke 5:33-39)

1. Just as new cloth and old garments don’t go together, neither do new wine and old wineskins.
2. In the same way, Jesus’ new message of   and mercy and the old manmade message of   don’t go together; they are incompatible.
