Jesus uses parables to teach truth.  This is not truth that was just for that time but truth that has always existed and will continue to exist into eternity.  We have a choice to sit at the feet of Jesus and learn from Him or walk away and be indignant toward Him.

Family Ties (Matthew 12:46-50; Mark 3:31-35; Luke 8:19-21)

  1. Mark draws a contrast between Jesus’ natural family and those who followed and listened to Him.
  2. Jesus identifies His   family by how they   to Him, not by the blood they share.
  3. Our faith is all about being in   with Jesus.
  4. The only way our heart is changed is by  to Jesus.

Purpose of Parables: To Reveal or Conceal Truth (Matthew 13:10-17; Mark 4:10-13; Luke 8:19-21)

  1. There is a tension that exists between divine   and human  .
  2. Scripture is clear that God is sovereign and that we have a free will.
  3. God, in His sovereignty and grace,   to whom He will reveal or conceal the mysteries of heaven.
